NIMBY is a term that sprung up widely in the 1980s mostly around urban development. However, it is now used to describe many anti-development people including those who oppose resource development.
However, there's an irony here. The same people who are fighting for solutions to climate change also (often) fight against many of the projects which are necessary to create the technology which will reverse warming trends. EV batteries need lithium. Solar cells and wind turbines require copper and concrete and other metals. All of these endeavors require physical space.
So how do we find a balance between these two? Wouldn't it be better if development happened in a place one could keep tabs on the operations?
What do you think?
